The Defence Attaché of the Chinese Embassy in the Netherlands, Senior Colonel WEI Hai hosted a reception on July 30th at the Embassy to celebrate the 92nd anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.
Chinese Ambassador H.E. Mr. XU Hong as well as all diplomats of the Embassy attended the reception. More than 200 guests joined the event, among whom were the representative of Vice Admiral Rob Kramer, Commander of the Royal Netherlands Navy, H.E. Ambassador Odette Melono, Deputy Drector-General of OPCW, and other officials from the Dutch government, officials and representatives from international organizations in the Hague, diplomatic corps, overseas Chinese, and friends across the Dutch society.
Senior Colonel WEI Hai reviewed in his speech the great achievements of the PLA in the past 92 years, introduced Chinese military's active involvement in the UN peace-keeping missions, anti-piracy missions, humanitarian assistance and various military operations. Senior Colonel WEI Hai reaffirmed that the Chinese PLA will play an ever-growing role in safeguarding China's sovereignty, security and national interests, as well as promoting global peace and stability. On July 24, 2019, the Chinese Government published the white paper China's National Defense in the New Era, which fully elaborates China's defensive national defense policy and the Missions and Tasks of the Chinese armed forces in the new era, emphasizes that China will follow the path of peaceful development. Never Seeking Hegemony, Expansion or Spheres of Influence, this is the distinctive feature of China's national defense in the new era.
On Sino-Dutch military relations, Senior Colonel WEI Hai said that the past few years witnessed healthy, pragmatic and substantial development of the bilateral military relations. He expressed firm belief that the relations would be further deepened under the background of positive and steady bilateral relations between the two countries.
On the reception, a photo exhibition named CPLA A FORCE FOR WORLD PEACE was presented and a short movie called PLA Today was played. The guests spoke highly of both China's achievements in developing its armed forces and the PLA's active contribution to safeguarding global peace and stability.
