On 21 May, the opening of China Day was held at World Stage in World Horticulture Exposition (Floriade) in Venlo, the Netherlands. Mme. Zhang Meiying, vice chairwoman of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Congress, Mme. Jiang Zehui, chairwoman of China Flower Association, and Mr. J. D. Gabor, commissioner-general of Floriade were present at the event. At invitation, Mr. Zhang Jun, Chinese ambassador in the Kingdom of the Netherlands, attended the event and made remarks.
After his warm congratulations on the opening of China Day, Ambassador Zhang said that both China and the Netherlands enjoy high reputation in horticulture. With the rapid development of bilateral relations, the two countries have witnessed growing exchanges in horticulture, and their cooperation is becoming more fruitful. The cooperation in horticulture has not only brought enjoyment to the people of both countries, but also enhanced their friendly relations. It is his strong wish that, through the window of China Garden of Floriade, the Chinese and Dutch people could better understand and trust each other, so as to bring closer the distance and ties of the people in two countries and made the cooperation between both sides more productive and fruitful.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level between China and the Netherlands. Ambassador Zhang was very glad to say that, with joint efforts, a strong and close partnership has been established in many areas ranging from economic cooperation to cultural exchanges. What is more important is that their people have been benefited greatly from the cooperation between the two sides. It is obvious that a strong relationship is in the interest of both the Chinese and Dutch people. China has now entered a new stage of its further development. It is his firm belief that China’s development will inject new vitality into Sino-Dutch cooperation. As the Chinese ambassador, Mr. Zhang sincerely hopes that, taking the 40th anniversary as a new starting point, the bilateral relationship and cooperation could be brought to new highs and more benefits would be extended to the people of both countries.
At the opening, Mme. Jiang Zehui and Mr. J. D. Gabor made their speeches, too. Representatives from both sides came to unveil a landmark board for Dutch eco-culture in World Stage after the speeches. An artists’ group from Autonomous Region of Yi Nationality, Sichuan, China, offered exiting performances there, and won waves of loud applauses from the audience.
