On April 25, 2013, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with visiting Swiss Vice President and Foreign Minister Didier Burkhalter.

Wang thanked the Swiss side for extending sympathy to China over the strong earthquake in Lushan, Sichuan. Wang made positive comments on the outcome bilateral ties have scored in recent years. China highly values the bilateral ties, Wang said, noting that the country would like to work together with Switzerland to carry forward the innovative spirit, focus on tangible cooperation, enhance a sense of partnership and promote coordination in multilateral affairs on the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit. An urgent priority now is to seize the opportunity and push forward the China-Switzerland FTA negotiations, Wang added.

Burkhalter said the Swiss side attaches great importance to developing ties with China. He expressed hope to maintain high-level exchanges with the Chinese side, deepen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, and complete FTA negotiations at an early date.

The two sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
