Why is it that the propositions for "splitting the country and ruling under separate regimes" and "two Chinas over a certain period of time" should be firmly opposed?  

In recent years, the Taiwan authorities have vigorously played up the propositions for "splitting the country and ruling under separate regimes" and "two Chinas over a certain period of time". On the face of it, those propositions do not seem to exclude the final reunification of the two sides of the Taiwan Straits. But, in essence, they are designed to make use of the current separation of the two sides of the Straits to advertise that the two sides of the Straits are "two political entities that are equal and do not affiliate to each other" and each has become an "independent international legal person", so as to change Taiwan's status as a part of China. To put it bluntly, they are creating "two Chinas" or "one China, one Taiwan", attempting to separate Taiwan from China permanently. For the reasons known to all, the mainland and Taiwan of the motherland have not yet reunified, but we are of one China and one sovereignty, and China's sovereignty over Taiwan cannot be separated and Taiwan cannot become an independent sovereign country.

It should be noticed that the propositions for "splitting the country and ruling under separate regimes" and "two Chinas over a certain period of time" are, in essence, the same as the scheme of "Taiwan independence". They are out-and-out acts of splitting China's sovereignty and territory and will bring disastrous consequences to the populace of Taiwan.
