On the dusk of December 8, 2004, Premier Wen Jiabao met with President of the First Chamber of the Dutch Parliament Yvonne Timmerman-Buck and President of the Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament Frans Weisglas.

Wen Jiabao said with frequent exchanges of visits by top leaderships, increasingly deepened mutual political trust and continued development of cooperation in economy, trade, agriculture, science, technology, culture as well as education, China-Netherlands relations have maintained a good momentum of development in recent years. The enhanced exchanges between the legislative bodies of the two countries have significantly promoted mutual understanding and friendly cooperation between the two countries and peoples. Despite the different social systems and economic development levels, the two countries share no fundamental conflict of interests but broad common interest and increasing consensus. We would like to promote enhanced exchanges and cooperation between China's National People's Congress (NPC) and the Dutch Parliament. The Dutch members of parliament are welcomed to visit China so as to deepen mutual understanding and contribute to the development of bilateral relations.

On behalf of all members of parliament, Timmerman-Buck and Weisglas extended a warm welcome to Premier Wen for his visit to the Netherlands. They hailed the tangible benefits brought to both peoples by the all-round development of Netherlands-China relations, indicating that the Dutch Parliament will continue enhancing exchanges with China's NPC and actively promote the mutual understanding and friendly cooperation between different sectors and social segments of the two countries.

Later that night, Premier Wen also met with the working staff of Embassy of China to the Netherlands, the Chinese delegation of entrepreneurs to the Netherlands and representatives from employees of Chinese-funded institutions, overseas Chinese students as well as Chinese compatriots in the Netherlands.
