On December 12, 2015, Foreign Minister Wang Yi attended the opening ceremony of the Symposium on the International Development and China's Diplomacy in 2015 co-hosted by China Institute of International Studies and China Foundation for International Studies, and delivered a speech entitled "The Year to Comprehensively Advance the Major-Country Diplomacy with Chinese Characteristics".

Wang Yi expressed that 2015 serves as an important year inheriting the past and ushering in the future in the development course of human history and a vital year charting the course based on the past progress for the rejuvenation process of the Chinese nation. Countries in the world commemorated the 70th anniversary of the victory of the World Anti-Fascist War in different forms in an endeavor to create a bright future of peace and prosperity. Under the strong leadership of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee with Xi Jinping as General Secretary, China is vigorously advancing the strategic deployment of the "Four Comprehensives" and successfully passed the suggestions on the "Thirteenth Five-Year Plan", sounding the bugle of establishing a well-off society in an all-round manner and realizing the first centenary goal by 2020.

Wang Yi pointed out that 2015 has witnessed the comprehensive advancement of the major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics. Deeply bearing in mind international and domestic pictures, China's diplomacy continues to forge ahead in a pioneering spirit and has thus made numerous major achievements and progresses. First, the international influence of China has been comprehensively enhanced by introducing a series of Chinese initiatives and plans of extensive and far-reaching influence in politics, economy, security and other aspects of the world. Centering on the two major topics of peace and development, China and the international community successively identified two major global agendas of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the post-2020 climate change arrangement and agreed to together address various global challenges including terrorism. Second, the diplomatic layout of China has been comprehensively promoted by further deepening China's relations with the US, Russia and the EU as well as with major countries in the Asia-Pacific, Africa and Latin America. Third, the development strategies between China and other countries have been comprehensively dovetailed. Significant progress has been made in the construction of the "Belt and Road" in the principle of co-consultation, co-construction and sharing, injecting new impetus into the economic development of the Eurasian continent and the world at large. Fourth, China's diplomatic theory innovation has been comprehensively deepened. China put forward a major concept to forge a community of shared destiny for mankind after proposing to establish the new type of international relations with win-win cooperation at the core, and this concept is becoming another important banner of China's diplomacy in the international arena.

Wang Yi noted that in 2016, China's diplomacy will, under the leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping as General Secretary, earnestly implement the major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics and actively shoulder China's due international responsibilities so as to create a better external environment for comprehensively establishing a well-off society and write a new chapter for the peace and development cause of the world. First, spare no effort to serve domestic construction. We will continuously promote the in-depth docking of the development strategies between China and other countries by focusing on the construction of the "Belt and Road" and highlighting the two priorities of connectivity and production capacity cooperation. Second, strive to lead the development of global economy. We will make every effort to ensure the success of the G20 Summit in Hangzhou so as to make new contributions to an innovative, energetic, coordinative and inclusive world economy. Third, spare no effort to shoulder the responsibility of safeguarding world peace. We will dedicate to forging a framework of major-country relations featuring sound interaction and win-win cooperation, actively participate in political solution of various hotspot issues and international counter-terrorism cooperation, safeguard the international nuclear non-proliferation system and enhance dialogue and cooperation with all other countries in establishing a peaceful, secure, open and cooperative international network space. Fourth, play an active role in regional development. We will push the construction of the Asian community of shared destiny, maintain regional stability and promote economic development. Fifth, take responsibilities sincerely to serve the welfare of the compatriots. We will, with a high sense of duty and a strong sense of mission for the country and people, further accelerate the construction of overseas livelihood projects and do our best to protect the legitimate rights and interests, safety and property of overseas Chinese citizens and enterprises.
