Foreign Minister Wang Yi Meets with SCO Secretary General Mezentsev

On April 16, 2013, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Secretary General of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Dmitry Mezentsev. Both sides exchanged views on the SCO's development and other issues.

Wang pointed out that the SCO adheres to equality and mutual respect on the state-to-state relations, offers mutual political trust and supports each other on security issues. The organization also seeks common economic development, upholds the principle of opening to the outside world and has become a new-type model for regional organizations. The Chinese side attaches great importance to the SCO and will continue to support the organization's development and better facilitate the work of the Secretary-General and the Secretariat.

Mezentsev spoke highly of China's important contribution to the SCO's development, pledging to do his utmost in performing the duties entrusted by the heads of member states, prepare for the organization's major events this year and push the SCO for greater development.
